I remember my first sign of burnout as a reporter. Just before dawn, I felt a little earthquake. I thought, "It's not ours. It's probably somewhere else."

The phone rang five minutes later. It was my city editor, telling me it was a towering 7.0-magnitude temblor with major damage out in the desert. He asked me to come in.

I said, "Do we have to do it now?"

That was nearly 30 years ago. :)
